About Us

(FMMB) is a statewide collegiate ensemble that unites musicians from across Florida in one powerful, collaborative experience. Bringing together students from HBCUs, PWIs, and private institutions, FMMB is built on excellence, diversity, and shared purpose creating a space where collaboration replaces competition.

FMMB delivers high-level performances beyond the traditional season while developing leadership, discipline, and cultural awareness. Members uphold strong musical and professional standards, representing not only their institutions, but the state of Florida as ambassadors of the arts.

At the heart of the organization is “The Florida Sound”—a dynamic fusion of HBCU energy, drum corps precision, and the rich influences of Latin, Caribbean, hip-hop, R&B, and gospel music. This unique identity reflects the true culture and spirit of Florida.

Through performances, mentorship, and community engagement, FMMB impacts audiences and inspires the next generation of musicians. Its signature event, the Florida Unity Showcase, brings the entire ensemble together each year in a powerful celebration of unity, culture, and excellence.

Introducing Ralph Jean-Paul: Summer Director of the Inaugura

First Official Florida Mass Band Director

The Florida Mass Band is proud to officially announce Mr. Ralph Jean-Paul as the Summer Director for our inaugural season. A distinguished educator, accomplished band professional, and respected leader from the world-renowned Florida A&M University Marching “100,” Mr. Jean-Paul brings a wealth of experience, championship-level musicianship, and a deep commitment to musician development.

Currently serving in a leadership role with the Florida A&M University band program as Director of Baritones and Sousaphones, Mr. Jean-Paul is recognized for helping develop one of the most powerful and disciplined lower brass sections in collegiate marching band culture. His responsibilities within the Department of Music also include teaching Instrumental Music Education, conducting, and assisting with musician recitals and musician teachers, demonstrating his broad expertise in both performance and academic instruction.

Beyond his musical excellence, Mr. Jean-Paul also understands the importance of movement, rhythm, showmanship, and visual performance elements that help create dynamic field productions. His knowledge of performance coordination, musical interpretation, and ensemble presentation will be a tremendous asset in helping shape both musicians and dancers within the Florida Mass Band experience.

As Summer Director, Mr. Jean-Paul will lead musicians through a transformative experience centered around musical growth, marching precision, performance excellence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership. His ability to connect strong musicianship with visual entertainment value will help musicians understand what it takes to perform at an elite level.

Participants can expect to be challenged, inspired, and elevated under his leadership. From brass sound development and marching fundamentals to timing, stage presence, and overall performance execution, Mr. Jean-Paul will help prepare musicians for greatness both on and off the field.

This marks a historic milestone for the Florida Mass Band as we launch our first official season with a leader whose reputation reflects excellence, tradition, and results. With Ralph Jean-Paul guiding this summer program, we are building more than a band—we are building a standard of excellence that will impact musicians for years to come
